Develop your rich mobile applications in record time using Adobe Flex
What is it? ELIPS Studio is a cross-platform mobile application SDK based on Adobe's Flex Builder. It leads the next generation of mobile application development environments and tools. Now software developers and creative designers can quickly develop for mobile some rich, connected or non-connected applications... and deploy them on any mobile platforms they want.
ELIPS Studio is equally valuable for experienced mobile application developers who want extra productivity, and for Adobe Flash / Flex and web developers who want to reuse their RIA / RDA assets and create rich mobile applications.
What problems does it solve? Until now, application developers needed in-depth expertise in all the mobile operating systems if they wanted to address a global market of over 4 billion phone users. And not just every operating system: they also had to understand the differences between the individual models from each manufacturer.
ELIPS Studio cuts through the complexity of the fragmented mobile market by providing a single development toolkit for the world's most popular handsets. It includes a sophisticated simulator, and the code it generates is compact and rapid enough to run even on low-specification, mass-market handsets.
How does it work?
Mobile applications are developed in three simple steps.
1- Develop your mobile application in Adobe Flex/Flash BuilderELIPS Studio is available as a plug-in for Adobe Flex / Flash Builder, a popular IDE for the development of RIAs and RDAs. It allows you to develop mobile applications using high level and efficient ActionScript and MXML languages, and allows Flex to go mobile. It also allows to use advanced features of Flex builder, such as the powerful UI designer, to design and develop mobile applications.
2- Use our Flex-based Mobile FrameworkThe product offers a mobile-optimized Flex Framework and a wide range of Flex extension libraries, including mobile device features and UI components. These provide additional capabilities beyond those found in the 'standard' Flex, such as initiating voice calls, accessing the phone's address book, sending SMS or MMS, taking snapshots or videos with the camera, accessing the device calendar and contact data, and much more. You can also import open source ActionScript Web 2.0 libraries.
3- Build and deploy for the mobile platforms you wantELIPS Studio is based on native compilation. It will automatically generate, optimize and package your Flex applications as native code for industry-leading platforms, including iPhone, Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile (see here for the list of supported platforms). One code base for all platforms: it is truly cross-platform. And because Open-Plug has a long track record of creating optimized code for cellular handsets... you’ll get amazing performance!
Additional features
The product includes several additional features, helping to build easily rich mobile applications.
Test your application on PC The product comes with a form-factor device simulator capable of simulating many mobile phones, allowing you to see how your application behaves on different devices, screen sizes, etc. It also contains a cellular network simulator, allowing to simulate calls, SMS, etc., on your desktop, therefore allowing to conduct the full testing of your connected mobile application in simulation.
Manage your application variants Mobile phones are diverse, their capabilities are fragmented. The product contains a powerful, yet comprehensible, device variant management mechanism, allowing you to easily cope with this fragmentation, and customize your application behavior and look & feel to the specificities of devices. Thanks to this mechanism, you can take benefits of the advanced device capabilities, while still managing your development costs.
